Sigfrido Oliva
|
Sigfrido Oliva was born in Messina in 1942, and currently lives in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto with his family. A lover of Van Gogh’s drawings and paintings, at the age of sixteen he attended evening courses at the local school of Arts and Crafts, where the only exercise was copying chalk casts and the works of ancient artists. In 1961 he moved to Rome, participating in a few collective exhibitions. In 1966 he attended the Free School of Nude at the Academy of Fine Arts. Sigfrido Oliva’s first solo exhibition in Rome was held in 1969, and since then he has exhibited his work in many Italian and foreign towns, with growing success. Many are the critics who have analysed his work, including Elio Mercuri, Carlo Levi, Domenico Purificato, Mino Maccari, Maurizio Fagiolo Dell’Arco, Alfonso Gatto, Enzo Siciliano, Renzo Vespignani, Bruno Caruso, Renato Civello, Luigi Tallarico, Enzo Bilardello, Raffaele De Grada, Costanzo Costantini, Claudio Strinati and Giuseppe Di Stefano. He is considered by everyone an excellent drawer and printer of uncommon talent. In his paintings, using both watercolour and oil techniques, he shows an original figurative approach. Sigfrido Oliva lives and works in Rome.
