Michele Cascella
|
Michele Cascella was born in Ortona (CH) in 1892. He started as an apprentice in the studio of his father, Basilio, painter and decorator, concentrating on pastels techniques. In 1920 he moved to Milan, where, on top of working on prints, he began to work with oil painting, while favouring landscapes and still life themes, especially with flowers. In 1935, after being invited by the princess of Piedmont to follow an artistic itinerary of Southern Italy, he painted 20 pieces inspired by the places he had visited. He also created numerous ceramic works for Manifattura di Doccia (1936), collaborated in the preparation of the preparatory cartoons for a large mosaic destined to the maritime station of Messina, and finally, in 1943, he designed the scenes of the Carmen at the Teatro della Scala (1943). Michele Cascella died in Milan in 1989.
