Ernesto Piccolo

Ernesto_Piccolo

Ernesto Piccolo was born in Zagarise (Catanzaro) in 1936 but moved to Florence when he was still young. Here, he studied arts in school and, afterwards, at the Academy of Fine Arts. In the Sixties he began his artistic activity while teaching. During those years he met the poet Mario Luzi, with whom grew a solid friendship. He attended the Gabinetto Viesseux, where he met his friends Bonsanti, Capocchini, Federici, Batocchi, Giampieri and many more. His link to the poetry of Mario Luzi inspired numerous artworks which were shown in 1975 at the Gabinetto Viesseux in Palazzo Strozzi, in an exhibition entitled “Suggestioni”, inspirations, from the poetic work of Mario Luzi. Later, in 2002, he held an important anthological exhibition entitled "Una grande avventura lirica e umana" in Palazzo Piccolomini in Pienza. Rome, together with Florence and Cosenza, are the towns where Ernesto Piccolo was frequently present since 1963. He currently lives and works in Florence (his studio is in Borgo Pinti), and teaches printing techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and Florence.
