Piero Mascetti was born in Rome in 1963. In 1974 he began to attend the studio of the Roman painter Umberto Bottiglia who initiated him to the Classics. Here he learnt the antiques techniques of oil painting. Mostly as an autodidact, after having participated in numerous collective exhibitions, he held with a first personal exhibition in 1994. Two years after his second exhibition in Cerveteri’s Townhall in 1997, the Townhall of Zagarolo dedicated to him a large solo exhibition in Palazzo Rospigliosi. Since 1999 he exhibited in numerous personal and collective exhibitions on a national scale. In 2001 together with other Italian and foreigner artists and the critic Andrea Romoli Barberini Piero Mascetti founded “Il Gruppo”, with which he experiments and researches a new figurative language. Some of his works have been used as theatre scenes and to illustrate posters and books. He has also participated in the XIV Quadriennale Nazionale in Rome, in “Anteprima Napoli”, which took place in Naples’ Royal Palace in 2003–2004; in the XXXI Premio Internazionale d’Arte “Ferruccio Ferrazzi” in Sabaudia and in other important events. In 2005 he held an important solo exhibition in the Palace of the Senate – Archivio di Stato in Milan.
