Alberto Sughi was born in Cesena in 1928. Considered among the most important artists of the generation which first appeared in the early Fifties, he soon attracted the unanimous interest of critics and therefore participated in the most important contemporary art events in Italy from the Sixties onwards. Italian and foreign museums have dedicated to him vast anthological exhibitions. Among these, Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Bologna in 1977, Galleria del Maneggio in Moscow in 1978, the Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, the Fine Arts Museum in Budapest, the National Gallery in Prague in 1986, the Civic Gallery of Modern art in Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara in 1988, Casa Masaccio in San Giovanni Valdarno nel 1990, the Museum of Art Assis Chateaubriand in Sao Paulo del Brazil in 1994 and the Civic Museum of Sansepolcro in 2003. In 2004 he became president of the Organization behind Rome’s Quadriennale Nazionale d’Arte. His research has constantly continued, following different themes, such as “Quotidiano nella città” (daily life in town), “La cena” (dinner), “Teatro d’Italia” (theatre of Italy), “La sera o della riflessione” (evening reflections). The latest series of his great paintings is entitled “Notturno”, nocturne. He’s still working on this theme in Rome, where he also lives.
