Sebastiano Sanguigni was born in L’Aquila in 1931. He grew up in Milan, but moved to Rome while still young. In the early 1970s, he began to come into contact with the artistic milieu in the city and forged close friendships based on mutual professional esteem, with Franz Borghese, Carlo Roselli and Ennio Calabria.

His artistic inspiration sprang from the inner turbulence of the soul. The harmonies and plasticity characteristic of his paintings are charged with veiled tension, an impalpable sense of poignant melancholy, which can be traced back to an unresolved dualism between art and life. In this fantastic world of chromatic fusion, unexpected forms and floating figures emerge, overlap, dissolve into light, and then recombine in soft swirls of lines and colours.

He exhibited in galleries and museums in Italy and abroad. In 2001, he moved to Brazil, where he lived for the next two years. Among the art critics and personalities of the cultural scene whose interest has been attracted by his artwork are Ugo Moretti, Toni Bonavita, Ennio Calabria, Alessandro Masi, Luigi Tallarico, and Mario Lunetta. Sanguigni died in Rome in 2012.
